The photos are gruesome in the best way, and my son can't stop reciting vampire bug facts at dinner. It's leveled perfectly for his age, and the short chapters kept him engaged without frustration.
My daughter devoured this in one sitting, and the way it describes assassin bugs turning prey to mush genuinely had her gasping. Great nonfiction find for kids who like their science with a side of gross.
My son is obsessed with creepy crawlies and this book is right up his alley – the assassin bugs turning prey to mush got a huge reaction. Great for a Level 3 reader, the text is challenging but not frustrating, and it’s actually teaching him science facts he loves to repeat.
